Pats have first-round pick for 2017, Patriots live broadcast
The New England Patriots will have a first-rounder in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft, sources told CBSSports.com.
The Patriots will select the offensive lineman in the second round and the wide receiver in the fourth round, the sources said.
The draft order for the first and fourth rounds will be announced in the coming days.
A source close to the process told CBS Sports that the Patriots have an outside chance of getting a first overall pick for the second time in as many years.
They have an opportunity to pick up the fourth-overall pick, which would become the third overall pick in 2019.
The Patriots are set to pick in the top five overall in the 2017 draft, so there’s no reason to believe that they won’t get a top pick in either round.
The New England area has historically been home to several top-tier prospects, including a top-10 class in 2019, and they have a strong foundation of young talent on the roster.
That’s why it’s been a big surprise to see so many top prospects in the region go to the NFL draft.
The Pats will take a quarterback with their first-overthirty selection, but they could take a guard with their second-overenthirty selection.
The Pats could take one offensive lineman or one wide receiver.
